A Quick Pucker
It’s fairly well-known that most of Reddit is garbage. There’s a reason the stereotype of a Reddit mod exists. We seem to keep using it anyhow, for some reason.
Personally, I tend to use it as a way to check news headlines that might not show up elsewhere, though more and more I’m thinking it might be better to find an alternative way to find my news, perhaps curated through an RSS reader.
I did discover something interesting when it comes to the topic of Mormonism though. There’s a subreddit called Mormon which hosts discussions about Mormonism in general, both in favor and against. One thing they’re extremely sensitive to however is the word “cult”. Nothing makes them pucker their buttholes faster than using that word. You can almost hear their pucker like a thunderclap.
It’s curious because you have a group of people that claim to no longer associate with or agree with the church, but the minute you point out the church’s cult-like behavior they line up to defend it. I guess in that subreddit at least both the members and the mods haven’t left Mormonism nearly as much as they claim.
There’s another subreddit dedicated specifically to ex-Mormons that has far more members and activity, but it seems like Reddit overall might just not be worth much time anymore. It could very well be time to find better communities.
